Desert Dweller

Hua is named after
the Huachuca mountains.
His sister, buried under the maple
was named Chuca.

Hua is never out of sight.

He’s usually under my feet,
peeking over the counter,
climbing my leg or dozing on my lap

Perhaps
a more appropriate name for Hua is

Appendage.
