Desert Dweller

On the last day of 2026,
I want the world to look back and say—
2026 was the year of hope,
the year of transformation.

A Transformation.

from conformity to resistance
from greed to generosity
from corruption to integrity
when every vote is fairly counted.

A Transition.

from ideology to evidence
from division to unity
from barbed wire—
to invitations: long tables, extra plates—
a place for everyone.

A Passage. 

from hate to love
from anger to peace
from the fear—
still here—to joy.

But today—welcome
to the first day of 2026,
a day like every other day,
an opportunity for a new beginning.

Let’s bake the bread and set the table.
