When I Write

Writing puts me in touch
with the me who was
sensually connected to the universe.
The me before sermons, headlines,
and advertisements that corrupted my soul.

Writing reconnects
my inner child.
I become seven instead of seventy.
I become playful, inquisitive,
and unafraid to contradict.

When I write,
the world becomes more expansive.
My thoughts move toward
something more open,
to futures full of possibilities.

When I write,
My death becomes more
than the absence of life.

I become immortal.
