When Polite Language Fails

Satire is contempt for truth
laundered into etiquette,
for insulated conversations spoken
as if consequences
are only hypothetical.

We laugh at satire
not because we are entertained
but because we recognize the truth
within the joke.

Satire enters the space
when polite language
and facts have failed.
It is disdain for hypocrisy.

Calling it comedy
makes it easier to brush away,
but ignorance is not a punch line.
