Congregation

don’t disappoint the congregation

atoms aren’t alive.
yet sometimes,
a few million, billion or trillion lifeless particles
decide to congregate,

they mix, blend and work together
for six-hundred-thousand hours
(give or take)
to be You

hydrogen, oxygen, sulfur, mundane atoms,
commonly found throughout the universe,
atoms that are nothing special, except:
they are You.

although not alive,
mundane atoms combine into enzymes,
proteins, lipids, carbs, eventually forming
bones, muscles, guts, flesh, blood…

and neurons,
cells that receive information from the environment, interprets it, and directs an orchestra of physiology
an orchestra which creates a symphony,
a symphony so magical, it produces, as a byproduct,

consciousness,

awareness that persists
for about seventy years (give or take),
awareness that persists, as You, until You die.

then, those atoms, who were never alive, scatter.
likely to end up in one of those millions of galaxies,
each loaded with atoms that, for whatever reason,
decline to congregate

life is special.
You are unique.
be alive.
