Desert Dweller

Natural Time

Worldly watches
can’t measure the significance
of time in nature.

Compared to humanity’s
tick-tocking clock,
natural time is slow.

Before entering the natural world
I breathe deeply,
To still my needy ego
I put aside plans and let go of schedules.

I allow myself
to become fully present.
I prepare my self to accept
whatever I encounter.

I enter the garden
slowly, luxuriously,
with the heart of a novice,
a bowl of gratitude,
and open mind.

Reconnecting with nature
is a sacred act of submission.

In the garden,
sanctuary where human and nature synchronize

I submit.
I offer myself up.
I refocus, attentive
to seed time,
to rock time.

To still the weary mind
to heal the lonely heart and
to reveal the peaceful soul,
I submit.

I reconnect
to scent of honeysuckle,
colors of grass and bloom,
to caress of wind,
whisper of water,
to insect hum and birdsong.

I submit
to the subtle rhythmic
sway and flow
of earths vibrations.

In that place of stillness
and contemplation,
in that paradise beyond time,
I submit.
