Desert Dweller

-thoughts on life, death and gardening.

Sunrise Meander

language is not necessary, but voluntary.
if necessary, it would be simple.

it would not agitate hearts with emotion,
it would not expand with ambiguity.

if language was not voluntary,
it would not imagine or dream.

language is a compression,
a declared emphasis,

an elaboration,
not necessarily essential to the message.

what is the poetry of this world about?
poetry is emotional syntax,

spirit and epiphany transcribed
into words and spaces.

poetry is simultaneously pondering
knowledge and mystery.

poetry is about deranging all the senses
to reach the unknown.

poetry is birdsong
on a misty October morning.

whether from divine intervention
or evolutionary adaptation,

song of the cactus wren
is no less beautiful.
